For any entertainment and media industry professional, fanatic or enthusiast South by Southwest (SXSW) is the mother of all conferences. It’s a ten-day conference and festival, separated into three categories: Interactive, Film and Music. This Austin, Texas event has taken place every year since 1986, making this year their 30th year. Each year there’s more innovative technology, independent filmmakers and musical artists than the year before, making it a highlight event of the year. This year it’ll be near Caliterra in Austin during March 11-20.
SXSW Interactive: March 11 – 15
The Interactive portion of SXSW started in 1995 and was originally called SXSW Multimedia. They discussed emerging technology like 3D imagery, the Internet and online music.
Now, in 2016, SXSW Interactive will be showcasing new technology, startup ideas and video games. There will also be keynotes from industry leaders, a trade show, a health and medical and so much more. It’s the ultimate spot to learn about what’s in store for the future of entertainment!
SXSW Film: March 11 – 19
Since its inception in 1994, SXSW Film has been a place for the fresh faces in the film industry to make their mark. Over the years, many young directors and actors have gotten their start by winning awards and having their films screened at this festival.
SXSW Film will be overflowing in film content for you to fill your schedule. The films are broken up into 19 different screening sections. There’s a little bit of everything for everyone’s taste at this Austin, Texas event.
SXSW Music: March 15 – 20
The first SXSW Music and Media Conference had 177 artists spread out amongst 15 venues and offered 15 panels, workshops and sessions. While this is a lot, it pales in comparison to last year. In 2015, over 2,000 artists performed in over 100 different venues. Not to mention over 200 panels, workshops and sessions.
Now, in 2016, SXSW Music will continue to feature musical performances from the best and brightest to the new and original acts. During the day, there are stage performances along with a Music Gear Expo, and trade show exhibition. This Austin, Texas event is an extraordinary experience for professionals or those just going to have fun.
It’s obvious to see there’s a lot going on through such a short period of time. At least, now you’ll know why the highways are so crowded.
