There are more Dripping Springs, hill country events heading your way. One event is the 4th annual Gunner Thames Memorial Rodeo benefitting deserving youth rodeo athletes on Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 7th. Tickets can be purchased on their website and cost $15 for adults, $5 for children 5-12 years of age, and are free for children under 5.
The mission of the foundation is “to raise funds for scholarships to deserving youth rodeo athletes, raise funds to purchase area youth 4H and FFA projects, and raise funds for a crisis fun to benefit area youth.” It was set up in 2011 after Gunner tragically died in a rodeo accident. He was a fun and carefree gentleman who loved working with livestock. During a Steer Wrestling event, Gunner suffered a head injury and died three weeks later from complications. His friends and family now keep his memory alive through the foundation.

They have donated over $7,300 at the Hays County Stock Show, purchasing show animals for the area 4-H and FFA students. They have also given 6 students $1,000 scholarships and donated $2,100 to the Texas High School Rodeo Region 6.
This year, there is a 7:30pm rodeo start, with “Muttin Bustin” before and during the rodeo. Sign up at the rodeo begins at 6pm. Be sure to get there early because spots are limited. This event is BYOB, so bring your favorite beverage to enjoy throughout the evening. There will also be family-friendly activities as well for the kids.
