We hope everyone is getting excited for the first ever Caliterra Race to Brunch 5K and Festival on May 12! Earlier, we shared a few tips to help you start training for this 5K near Austin, but now we want to take the next step and give you a quick little guide about what you should be eating to best fuel your body for the Caliterra Race to Brunch 5K.
It’s All About Your Macronutrients
There are tons and tons of different recipes out there that claim to give you the ultimate boost for running, but really as long as you have three major macronutrients properly balanced in your diet, you’ll be fine. Those three macronutrients are carbs, proteins and fats.
Carbs
Okay, so virtually everyone knows that carbs are great for giving you that extra boost of energy that can push you through to the finish line. However, with our 5K near Austin at Caliterra in Dripping Springs, you won’t need to worry about drastically increasing your carb intake. As long as you stick to 2.5 grams per pound of your body weight daily, you’ll be consuming a proper amount. Steer your diet towards whole grains like quinoa, brown rice and even sweet potatoes.
Protein
Next up, let’s talk protein! Protein is an essential component for all your tissues, but it’s especially valuable when it comes to helping you build and repair muscle. For the Caliterra Race to Brunch 5K, participants will do fine with consuming 0.5 grams of protein per pound of your body weight. Your ideal protein sources would be lean proteins such as fish, white meat poultry and trimmed steak.
Fats
Fats are an essential part of a balanced diet, especially the unsaturated fats. Unsaturated fats help your body properly absorb important vitamins and the Omega 3s help to reduce inflammation. The best sources for unsaturated fats packed with Omega 3s include avocado, salmon and nuts.
If you continue to maintain a balanced diet with these three main macronutrients, then your body should be prepared to expel the energy needed to cross the finish line at the Caliterra Race to Brunch 5K. Along with the 5K, there will also be a festival, which is free to attend.
