Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead is excited to present Time Travel Thursday for kids ages 6-12 in Dripping Springs, TX. Time Travel Thursday will begin on July 9th and continue on each Thursday throughout the entire month of July. Each of the four Thursdays has a different theme filled with fun, kid friendly activities that will allow them to know what it was like being a pioneer child!
July 9th – An Apple a Day
Kids will get the full pioneer experience on July 9th when they learn how to make homemade treats. By the end of the day, your kids will know how to peel apples, measure and prepare dry ingredients for pie crusts and roll dough the old-fashioned way. Not to mention they’ll get to snack on homemade ice cream and apple treats!
July 16th – A Day in the Life
Spend a day in the life of a pioneer child on July 16th. Kids will love getting to do a variety of hands-on activities. They will be doing everything from making their very own straw broom to scrubbing laundry on a washboard and prepare fresh vegetables to cook. Pioneer living doesn’t have to end once the class is over! Each kid will get to bring home their prepared vegetables and straw broom to help you around the home.
July 23rd – Weaving the Past with the Present
Weaving baskets was a popular thing to do back in the day, especially for young pioneers. All kids will work in a large group together to learn the weaving process to make their own unique basket to take home. There will also be tons of kid activities to give their fingers a break like stories, games and snack time!
July 30th “Awl” About Leather
This day is dedicated to learning the tools and trade of leather working. The kids will use these tools to create a leather tag and a leather marble pouch for them to take home. They will also send each child home with instructions and marbles to remember the all the fun they had at Time Travel Thursday!
