Dripping Springs has no shortage of gorgeous Travis County parks. The one closest to the Caliterra community is Milton Reimers Ranch Park (23610 Hamilton Rd., Dripping Springs, TX 78620).
Located on the Pedernales River just 14 miles from Dripping Springs, the park features many activities and amenities including mountain bike trails and rock climbing. The park is the largest parkland acquisition in the history of Travis County.
Milton Reimers Ranch Park Activities
The park has an astronomical observatory. Here’s your chance to see a star-filled sky and learn about the universe. Reimers Observatory houses two large telescopes. Residents can take telescope classes and check out the observatory program. In the two-hour program, visitors learn about the science behind what we see and tell ancient stories of star lore. The program requires reservations and payment when you arrive at the park.
Reimers enjoys being a rock climbing destination for its views. Mountain bikers love to ride over 18 miles of trails through the Central Texas Landscape. The Pedernales River flows through the park and it’s open for swimming. The river is about a 300-yard hike from the parking lot. During busier times, the hike can take up to a half-mile from the overflow parking areas.
While the park doesn’t have cooking grills, they allow you to bring a gas or charcoal grill. The only grill you can’t bring is the one that uses wood because of the flying embers.
Every first Saturday from October through April, the park holds monthly bird walks. The walk begins at 7:30 am and runs for two hours. It consists of a two- to three-mile walk on mostly flat trails. Bring binoculars and water and wear sturdy shoes.
Weather permitting, the park has weekly guided tours on Saturdays. In this tour, the staff talks about the natural history of the land. The two-hour tour begins at 10 am and is limited to the first 30 participants.
Before You Go
The park asks that visitors read the warning signs especially on the mountain biking and rock climbing trails. To maintain their integrity, the park closes the bike trails after a rainstorm. They reopen the trails once the ground dries.
The park doesn’t accept cash. They do take credit and debit cards at the entrance booth. Check the Milton Reimers Ranch Park’s website to see its current hours. The situation changes from day to day.
