About Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Founded in 1982 by Lady Bird Johnson and actress Helen Hayes, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is an arboretum in the ecoregions of Edwards Plateau and Texas Blackland Prairies. The center uses native plants to restore and create sustainable landscapes.
Their mission is to inspire the conservation of native plants through their gardens, education, outreach programs, and research. This helps improve water quality and provide a habitat for wildlife while enhancing human health and happiness.
The center has evolved from a private nonprofit research organization focused on Texas wildflowers to a major botanic garden and research unit of the University of Texas known for plant conservation, sustainable landscape design, and landscape researching. The center received the Botanic Garden and Arboretum of Texas designation in 2017.
