‘Tis the season for holiday festivals. If you’re looking to “ooh” and “ahh” at Christmas lights, sip some hot chocolate, or lace up your ice skates, then grab a skating partner and check out Western Wonderland.
What is Western Wonderland?
As any Texan knows, we have a way of putting a Texas spin on just about anything, and that naturally includes the holiday season and all the merriment that goes along with it. Western Wonderland bills itself as a magical celebration “extravaganza.” There will be lights, there will be food, there will be handmade crafts, there will be music, there might even be (okay, definitely) an appearance by that jolly, old elf himself, Santa Claus.
After a successful debut, this is the second year of Western Wonderland. “We were overwhelmed by the community’s enthusiasm and support last year,” said Dripping Springs Ranch Park Manager Emily Nelson.”We’re thrilled to bring the rink back along with a host of other fun holiday activities to make this year’s experience even more memorable!”
When and Where
Western Wonderland will take over Dripping Springs Ranch Park (1042 Event Center Drive) and run from November 27, 2024 – January 5, 2025, from 11 am – 9 pm with shorter hours from 11 to 6pm Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. It will be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Attending the festivities is completely free, though there is a fee if you want to ice skate, but more on that down below.
What Can Visitors Expect?
A name like Western Wonderland certainly conjures up certain expectations… twinkling lights, ice skating, snowmen, carolers singing Christmas music – the works! Attendees can expect a range of attractions at this year’s event.
Trail of Lights – Grab a friend and wander through an enchanting trail of twinkling lights amid familiar holiday characters and whimsical Christmas scenes that will put you in the spirit of the season.
Festive Market – If you’re hoping to check some folks off your holiday shopping list, this is the place. Grab a tasty treat or hot beverage and take a stroll through the market with vendors selling unique and handmade crafts and gifts.
Live Entertainment – It wouldn’t be a festival without music and Western Wonderland has a lineup of local choirs, bands, and entertainers to put attendees in the mood with holiday favorites.
Ice Skating – Skating was a big hit at last year’s festival, and the largest ice skating rink in Central Texas is making a return for 2024. Ice skating includes skate rental and is $15 per skater for a 75-minute skating session.
If you’ve never ice skated or you have somebody in your group with a disability, there are also skate lessons and an All Ability Skate session on Sundays from 10 to 11 am.
In addition to ice skating, the market, and the trail of lights that are open every day, there are also select special events throughout the festival’s run, such as the Gingerbread Cowboy Experience, First Responders Day, Grinch Experience, Pancake Breakfast, and Disney Frozen Experience.
