It’s no secret that people place a special value on handmade items. Just look at the success of Etsy. The e-commerce company that gives artisans a way to reach a global online customer base generates billions in revenue and showcases millions of handmade products of every kind and variety.
While buying goods online does have a certain appeal, there’s something to be said for having the ability to look at handmade goods up close and talk with the artisans who made them. That’s exactly the appeal of Vibe Artisan Market.
How it Started
The Texas-based marketplace sprang up during the pandemic when founder Christina Terry saw a need for a way that local craftspeople could showcase their talents. Christina, who is a stay-at-home mom, had a side gig making organic elderberry tea and launched the initial market with her husband, Brad, in October 2020.
“We had 25 vendors in an empty field, and over 2,000 people came through in five hours and sold out most of our vendors,” Christina told Shoutout HTX.
From there, the marketplace only grew, and the Austin, Dallas, and Houston pop-ups now showcase over 1,000 local businesses.
What to Expect
Visit the Vibe Artisan Market, and you’ll see Texas brands you might already know, as well as new brands that may just become new favorites!
As for the types of goods, you’ll find at the market, it’s really a bit of everything. This ranges from boutique clothing designers to custom leather crafts, blown glass, paintings, sculptures, homemade soaps, textiles, homemade jewelry, and lots more. Whether you’re looking for a unique piece to complement your living space or are searching for the perfect gift, there’s a little bit of everything.
Not only will shoppers have the chance to support local artists, but there are always a few food trucks on site for when you inevitably work up an appetite from shopping.
When and Where
Beautiful handmade goods, delicious food, what’s not to love, right? Oh, and the family-friendly and dog-friendly events are always free to attend. So, by now, you’re probably wondering when the next market is taking place, so you can mark it on your calendar and grab a few friends to tag along.
The markets take place once a month and feature different items based on the season. Visit in December, and you’ll find a different range of goods than what you might have seen at the August market.
