The Dripping Springs area has no shortage of area parks with great playgrounds and natural settings for kids to let loose. Throw in a picnic lunch, and these destinations make for an enjoyable (and incredibly cheap) afternoon of family fun.
Super Close
These local destinations are only minutes away from Caliterra, making for an easy outing that doesn’t require much planning or driving time.
Charro Ranch Park – This 64-acre park is a fantastic option for taking the family out to simply enjoy the tranquility of nature. While there isn’t a playground, this is a great park to visit with kids as it has an amazing bird-watching station and several picnic tables that are ideal for a quick lunch break.
Founders Memorial Park – This local city park has a lot to offer families with something for kids of all ages. Smaller kids will enjoy climbing, sliding, and swinging on the three different playscapes, while older kids will find the football and soccer fields appealing. There’s also plenty of parking, restrooms, and a swimming pool that’s open during the warmer months.
Dripping Springs Ranch Park – The city-run park is a popular spot throughout the year, not just because there’s lots to do, but it plays host to a variety of seasonal events as well. The park has a large playground, basketball courts, sand volleyball, walking trails, and fields for soccer and baseball.
The park also hosts special events ranging from archery to skateboarding, Nerf, and nature camps.
A Little Further Out
These playgrounds are a little more of a car ride (around 30 minutes) but can be a great option for taking the kids someplace new to explore on a weekend.
City of Bee Cave Central Park – Spread out over 50 acres, the park boasts a nice play structure and lots of space for family-friendly activities, as well as plenty of shaded areas for the requisite juice box break. Paved walking rails around the park are perfect for strollers and kids on scooters.
West Austin Neighborhood Park – Located in West Austin, the park has a large playground, walking trails, a dog run, and a pool. The park is well-maintained, parking is free, and the bathrooms are always clean. A win-win!
We’d be remiss not to highlight the playscape and Back 40 located within the Caliterra community. Known as The Treehouse, the Caliterra playscape is surrounded by a group of 100-year-old live oak trees that make for a blanket of natural shade and provide a welcomed relief from the summer sun.
Caliterra’s open field area, known as the Back 40, is the perfect spot for families to toss a football or lay down a blanket for a picnic or some nighttime stargazing. No matter what you’re looking for, there’s no shortage of outdoor fun in the Dripping Springs area.
