Whether you’re simply in need of a good book or looking for something more, lots is going on at the Dripping Springs Library this September.
Crafts
Knitting – If you’ve ever been curious about knitting, now’s you’re chance to learn. Guests get group instruction on knitting basics. This all-ages event is sponsored by The Sated Sheep yarn store, and all knitting supplies are included. September 4 and 18, 4:30 – 6 PM.
Watercolors – Painting is one of the best ways to relieve stress and channel your brain’s creative side. Artist Marsha Young has been painting for over 40 years and will give step-by-step guidance on an introduction to watercolors. The class is for those 18 and up, and registration is recommended – all materials will be provided. Sepbember 12, noon – 1:30 PM.
Kids
Baby Time – Every Thursday from 10:30 to 11 AM, moms and dads are invited to stop by the library for a half hour of singing, bouncing, and language skills for children ages 0 to 18 months.
Toddler Time – On Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, Miss Olivia will sit down with littles and their parents for a story that involves singing, clapping, and other ways to introduce kids to the joys of reading.
Teen Scene – This monthly book club invites teens ages 13 and up to dive into a book and its cinematic adaptation. The club meets on Fridays (September 27, 1 – 2 PM), and a free book is provided to teens who register for the club ahead of time.
LEGOS – Who doesn’t love LEGOs? This meet-up is all about enjoying the fun of building with the iconic bricks in a group setting. Bring your own LEGOs or build whatever your imagination conjures up from the library’s brick stash. September 18, 4:30 – 5:30 PM, ages 6+.
Hobbies
Chess – This game of strategy dates back centuries and is a fantastic way to give your brain a workout. Instructor Brent Toups will help teach the game to new players and set up matches between more experienced players. September 9, 4:30 – 6 PM.
Gardening – Gardening is one of those hobbies that, no matter how long you do it, you’re bound to get lost in the weeds at some point. Have no fear, though, because the Master Gardener crew will be at the library every Thursday from 3 – 6 PM to answer any green thumb questions you might have.
Qigong – If you’re looking for a low-stress new exercise, then drop by the library for Qigong classes. This Asian exercise is related to tai chi with a focus on relaxing the mind and calming the nervous system. Taught by Claudia Oney, the class meets every Monday from 1 – 2 PM.
Reading
The library offers several different book clubs throughout the month for both adults and children.
My First Book Club is a monthly book club for grades K-3 and will meet on September 9, 5 – 6 PM. Other book clubs geared towards older readers include the Non-Fiction Addiction Club (September 5, 6 – 7:30 PM), Charlotte’s Book Club (September 12, 6 – 7:30 PM), and Pages Through the Ages, a club focused on historical fiction for readers 13+ (September 26, 6:30 – 7:30 PM).
