With over 100 wineries in the Hill Country, you can venture in just about any direction and stumble upon a great winery worth visiting.
Head north, and you’ll discover Fiesta Winery in Marble Falls; go south, and you’ll run into Winery on Gruene; or venture east, and you’ll find Rising Sun Vineyard in McDade. Go west, and you’ll discover these five new wineries in Fredericksburg.
Bluemont Vineyard – This local winery/campground/restaurant opened in 2023 and is the ideal spot when you’re traveling with somebody in your crew who isn’t into wine. That’s because, in addition to offering wines with hints of white peach, tangerine, and rose petals, Bluemont also makes its own beer and hard cider.
So grab a glass of whatever wets your whistle because Bluemont has something for just about everyone.
Michael Ros Winery – Mike and Rosann Mitrione left behind successful corporate careers to get their hands dirty in the Texas dirt with their first grapes in 2018 and haven’t looked back since. The couple now owns two vineyards, one in Brownfield, Texas, and a vineyard in Fredericksburg that was planted in 2021.
Visitors to the tasting room will be treated to over a dozen wines, ranging from full-bodied reds to tart and sweet whites and rosés.
Wine for the People – Winemaker Rae Wilson’s journey has taken her from Napa to Portugal and now to the Texas Hill Country, where she launched WFTP in January 2024 with the goal of creating an inviting tasting experience for everyone.
The winery’s tasting room is open Thursday through Sunday, and twice a month, Rae offers reservation-only private tastings, where she takes guests on a tasting journey of five different wines.
Blumenthal Farms – To call Blumenthal Farms a winery really wouldn’t be doing it justice – it’s so much more. It’s a tasting room, a cigar bar, an amphitheater, a general store, an event space – it even has a pickleball court and putting green.
With live music events, regular happy hours, and the occasional shrimp boil, this place is all about good wine and good times.
Barelle Vineyards – With the goal of showcasing some of Texas’ best female winemakers, Barelle combines Hill Country hospitality with delicious wine.
Visitors to the winery will find a selection that includes Spanish reds, whites, and even the occasional curveball like the Haak Cotton Candy Wine. The winery also offers wine club memberships that include special discounts and complimentary tastings.
These are only the newest wineries to plant roots in Fredericksburg, and with over 60 and counting in the area, vino lovers have no shortage of choices when it comes to popping a cork and enjoying Texas-made wine.
