Springtime in Texas means longer days, warmer weather, and of course, spring sports! Youth sports including baseball, softball, and flag football are just around the corner in Texas, and Dripping Springs Youth Sports Association (DSYSA) is gearing up for a great season of a variety of sports for children of all ages.
What Is Dripping Springs Youth Sports Association?
DSYSA is a 501c3 organization dedicated to serving the youth of Dripping Springs by instilling life-long skills and well-being through organized sports. On the second Monday of every month, they hold a DSYSA Umbrella Board Meeting that’s open to the public.
Their website provides detailed FAQs and conducts guidelines and behavior expectations that apply to everyone including players, parents, coaches, and spectators.
What Youth Sports Are Available in Dripping Springs?
The Sports page shows the season dates for spring and fall sports. Several sports are offered in both seasons including lacrosse, baseball, softball, and soccer. Fall-only sports include football, cheer, volleyball, and basketball. Visit the website to view the detailed information about the sports of interest and their seasons. They have maps of their sports fields and links to separate websites for each sport. Below are a few details about the available sports for kids with DSYSA.
Baseball and Softball
Baseball and softball are offered in the spring and fall. Registration for the spring occurs in February with the season starting in early March. In the fall, registration is open from August to September. To learn more, visit the baseball page.
Basketball
Offered in the fall, basketball registration is around early October. It’s open to kids in 2nd through 6th grade. Every team plays on Saturdays, with at least eight games in the regular season.
Football and Cheer
Fall registration for tackle football and competition cheer is open from April to May. Football season and cheer conditioning begin in August. Prospective cheerleaders can opt for recreational or competition cheer. Check out the cheer webpage to learn more. Registration for recreational cheer is mid-December through January.
DSYSA follows the Pop Warner Program Philosophy, which focuses on developing America’s youth both on and off the field. Tackle football is open to kids ages 5 to 12. Flag football registration occurs in February with the season starting in March. It’s open to boys and girls from Pre-K through 6th grade. Teams are in a 5 v. 5 format.
Lacrosse
Occurring during both the fall and spring seasons, lacrosse is open to boys and girls in grades 1st through 8th. There’s a separate lacrosse league for high school students. All participants must be registered with U.S. Lacrosse.
Soccer
Two types of soccer programs are available: recreational soccer and competitive (select) STARS soccer, with two seasons, one in the fall and one in the spring. Recreational is open to kids ages 3 through 15. They have coed teams as well as boys’ and girls’ teams. STARS soccer is for kids ages 8 through 17.
Volleyball
Volleyball is available in both the spring and fall for grades 2 through 8. The spring season is considered less competitive with a lighter schedule, whereas the fall season is much more competitive. Visit the volleyball page for more information. Although this sport is more popular with girls, there are opportunities for co-ed teams, and if there is enough interest, there will also be teams for boys.
Wrestling
DSYSA also offers wrestling and is open to elementary and middle school students of all skill levels, sizes, and genders.
Want to become a coach? Volunteer to coach your kids and get involved in the sport they love! The only thing better than watching your child from the bleachers is being right there with them. The association conducts background checks and requires concussion training for coaches.
