Halloween and candy might dominate the later part of October, but the early part of the month (and a good chunk of September) belongs to beer. More specifically Oktoberfest-style celebrations of beer.
With Central Texas being one of the premier sites of crafter brewing in the United States, it should come as no surprise that our area has its fair share of Oktoberfest shindigs. One of the best Oktoberfest celebrations is happening right here in Dripping Springs with 12 Fox Beer Company’s third annual Foxtoberfest.
Beer, Food, and Yes, Even Polka!
Oktoberfest is German in origin and when Germans began settling in Texas in the 1800s they brought this festive tradition with them. The festivities take place at 12 Fox Beer Company (4700 Fitzhugh Road) on September 24 and 25 from noon until 5 pm.
Guests are welcome to bring the entire family (including dogs) to this event that, in addition to plenty of beer, will also include over 50 Texas artists and vendors selling everything from handmade toys to crafts, clothing, and jewelry. If you’re the type of person who likes to knock out your holiday shopping early, you do not want to miss this!
There will also be several local food trucks on-site offering up delicious grub. And because this is an Oktoberfest celebration, the Reed Meisters – an all-saxophone band – will hit the stage to play authentic German polkas and waltzes.
An Ideal Biergarten Setting
With its spacious deck and numerous picnic tables under shady trees, it’s easy to understand why 12 Fox Beer Company is the perfect place for enjoying a cold beer on a fall day. Owners Aaron Luelling and Joe Hogge first met at basic training in Ft. Still, Oklahoma and it was in Germany that they developed a fondness for European-style craft beers.
Fast forward, and 12 Fox Beer Company opened its doors to the Dripping Springs community in 2019. The brewers offer a range of European beers such as Czech pilsner, Vienna lager, German wheat, and Irish red ale among a rotating tap of seasonal beers. “The beers we decided on were a combination of complexity, simplicity, consumer feedback, home brew awards won, and beers we like to drink,” Aaron told Craft Beer Austin.
In addition to beers made on-site, 12 Fox also offers red, white, and rosé wine as well as mead and cider from area wineries and brewers.
Tasty beer? Check. German polka music? Check. Delicious food and Texas crafts? Check. That’s all you need for an Oktoberfest celebration that’s sure to be a blast.
Of course, you really can’t go wrong whenever you choose to visit this local brewery. 12 Fox Beer Company keeps a full calendar of events on the weekends. It can also be rented out for private events such as rehearsal dinners or office parties.
There’s something fun pretty much every weekend that’s worth checking out in Dripping Springs. It’s one of the many reasons this wonderful town is growing!
