When it comes to Halloween, the Texas Hill Country is all about the spooky season. From things that go bumpity bump in the night to haunted happenings at the zoo, here are five area events that promise guys and ghouls a scary good time.
Boo at the Zoo
If you’ve only been to the Austin Zoo in the daytime, now is your chance to encounter its wild side after dark.
Boo at the Zoo happens every weekend in October from 5:45 to 9 PM and promises visitors a “spook-tacular time with family-friendly Halloween-themed activities and games.” There will be a haunted mansion, a spooky train ride, as well as a chance to learn about some of the zoo’s more nocturnal residents.
Be sure to reserve your tickets in advance for this limited-time event, and don’t forget to come dressed in your costume!
Black Lagoon Pop-Up Bar
Something mysterious is lurking beneath the surface of the King Bee bar in Austin…it’s the Black Lagoon Pop-Up Bar!
This immersive Halloween experience is all about the kooky and the creepy with a dash of goth and metal thrown in. Like a witch’s brew with a little of this and a little of that, the result is a night of cocktails so good it’s scary!
The event runs October 8 through the 31, and while reservations aren’t required, you can bet that the closer it gets to All Hallow’s Eve, the more popular this event will be. Costumes encouraged.
Austin Symphony: Halloween Children’s Concert
Any horror fan knows that music is a key element in creating suspense. Introduce your little goblins to some chills and thrills with this Austin Symphony Halloween concert that combines music and storytelling for a spooky (but not scary) mystery.
There will be musical crafts, games, and even an instrument petting zoo an hour before the one-hour concert takes place. This event is recommended for children ages 4 to 11 and is sure to sell out, so get your tickets for the Sunday, October 20 concert before they vanish like a ghost in the night.
Spooky Silent Disco
If you’re looking to rattle your bones and dance the night away, then be sure to make your way over to The Belmont in Austin for a Spooky Silent Disco on October 25.
A complimentary pair of headphones will be provided so you can jam out as three DJs spin everything from top 40 dance hits to ‘80s,’90s, and ‘00s throwback tunes and current hip-hop/R&B tracks. The Belmont will be decked out in glow-in-the-dark decorations, and guests are encouraged to let out their inner creature and dress in costume. This event is 21+, and tickets are required.
Murder Mystery Dinner Party
A sinister evening is happening on October 25 at Hotel Viata. Guests should put on their detective hats because some sleuthing will be required to solve this Murder Mystery Dinner Show.
Tickets for the event include dinner with a cocktail, entrée, and dessert. It’s sure to be an evening of laughs, intrigue, and suspense that will keep guests on the edge of their seats, guessing who the murderous culprit might be.
