Thanksgiving Volunteering Opportunities
Many folks feel thankful for having a roof over their heads that they like to give back in any way they can. Here are a couple of great options.
Operation Turkey
Multiple locations
Operation Turkey Founder Richard Bagdonas enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner in 2000. He plated the leftovers and on his way home, he decided to drive down 6th Street in Austin. He handed the plate of food to a homeless man in a wheelchair. The man could not thank him, but the homeless person next to him thanked him for both of them.
This compelled Bagdonas to start Operation Turkey and this year, the goal is to serve 75,000 meals. For almost 20 years, Operation Turkey has relied on more than 30,000 volunteers to ensure everyone gets a warm meal on Thanksgiving Day. Visit the Operation Turkey website to find your preferred location to volunteer.
