It’s not too often that horseback riding and a game of poker are on the afternoon agenda together… well, outside of a western anyway. That’s precisely what participants can partake in at the 2nd annual Dripping Springs Ranch Park Poker Trail Ride. Saddle up and throw on your boots, because this unique event is sure to be a seriously good time that you’re not going to want to miss out on.
What is a Poker Trail Ride?
Glad you asked! A poker trail ride is the equivalent of playing a single hand of poker, in this case, a game of 5-card stud, with cards you pick up along your horseback ride. Allow us to explain…
The event takes players on a self-guided six-mile trail ride throughout the park. Players get their first card at the start of the ride and proceed to pick up three more cards at designated card stations along the ride. If a player draws a duplicate card, they draw another replacement card. Players receive their final card at the end of the ride to complete their full hand of 5-card stud. No poker face is necessary for this game (though cowboy hats are of course welcome!), the top five players with the best hands win the game and a prize to correspond with how good of a card hand they finish with. Who knows, maybe you’ll come out lucky and finish your ride with a flush!
The poker game and horseback ride are just part of the fun happenings of this event. Food and drink vendors will be on-site, along with live music to keep the good times going after the ride is over.
