There’s no shortage of sunny days during the summer months in Texas, but let’s face it, forgoing the comfort of air conditioning when temps are pushing the upper 90s doesn’t make for an enjoyable meal. Fall on the other hand, when temperatures are more moderate, dare we say even cool, is the ideal weather for outdoor dining in the Hill Country.
If you haven’t been to these Dripping Springs eateries yet, put them on your list and opt for an outside table when the hostess asks where you’d like to sit!
Epicure Market – You really can’t go wrong with this place for dining outside on date night. The restaurant specializes in “global comfort cuisine” with tapas plates that include items like roasted Szechuan Brussel Sprouts, Spicy Beef Empanadas, and Chimichurri Shrimp Pasta.
The restaurant also has freshly prepared and Instagram-worthy charcuterie boards that can feed groups of two or groups of fifteen.
Good food of course demands good wine and Epicure Market has an extensive wine selection of bottles from around the globe.
Crepe Crazy – Why wait until dinner to dine outside? Offering both sweet and savory crepe options, this Dripping Springs restaurant may be the perfect place to enjoy some fresh air with a delicious breakfast.
Crepe Crazy is open for breakfast and lunch with customers lining up at 9 AM to try crepes like the Fiesta (chorizo, scrambled eggs, black beans, corn, salsa, cilantro, salsa, cheese) or the Peanut Butter Heaven (PB, bananas, honey, roasted almonds, chocolate sauce).
Can’t make it for breakfast? No worries, pull up a seat on the patio and order a savory crepe or salad such as the Lady Bird (strawberries, avocado, spinach, red onion, almonds, feta, parsley).
Homespun Kitchen & Bar – Homespun is the sort of place where you can spend hours eating and chatting with old friends or make a few new friends over good food and drinks. Its covered patio is a welcoming table for dishes such as Skillet Mac & Cheese, Fried Green Tomato Napoleon Salad, Chicken Fried Steak, or the always popular Mercer Street French Dip.
The bar offers up an impressive beer selection with local craft beers on tap as well as wine and house cocktails such as the Farmer’s Market Martini (Dripping springs vodka, lemon juice, sugar cane, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and basil).
Homespun regularly has live music nights and is a popular spot to watch college and NFL football on the pavilion.
Rolling in Thyme & Dough – We’re probably not the only ones who think coffee just tastes a little better when it’s sipped on an outdoor patio on a perfect fall day. This Dripping Springs European-style bakery and coffee house has a beautiful, partially covered outdoor seating area that’s like eating in a backyard garden.
With an assortment of tarts, sticky buns, pies, and cakes, it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular spot for a sweet treat when the weather is nice. The bakery and coffee house is also a favorite local spot for breakfast and brunch, offering up breakfast sandwiches on house-made croissants and savory frittatas.
