If it’s a scare that you seek, you don’t have to look far to find an event that will make you shriek in the Texas Hill Country. There’s plenty of spooky fun happening this season right here in Dripping Springs and the greater Austin area.
From ghostly chills to ravenous beasts and an extravaganza of horrors, consider sinking your fangs into one of these festive October events!
Explore the Ghostly Side of Austin
Austin has been a city for nearly 200 years, and Native Americans called the area home long before that. Needless to say, a lot of people have lived and died here and some of their spirits may still be hanging around town.
Austin Ghost Tours is all about exploring the city’s spookier side and its guides are incredibly knowledgeable of the city’s history and local apparitions. Walking tours are $25 and take guests through the downtown area, as guides share local ghostly lore. Some guests have even reported chilling encounters with spirits!
Boo at the Zoo
If hanging out with specters and spirits isn’t you’re thing, then consider a Halloween festivity of the beastly variety. The Austin Zoo is celebrating the season with its Boo at the Zoo event on October 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, and 29th from 6:30 PM to 9 PM.
Guests are invited to wear their favorite costumes to this special event that will find visitors wandering through an illuminated zoo as they visit the animals by flashlight. There will also be rides on the Haunted Train as well as a Haunted House. If you’ve never been to this event, then you’re in for a serious treat as many of the zoo’s residents are nocturnal and are more active at night.
A Spooktacular Weekend in Dripping Springs
If you haven’t made it out yet to the Dripping Springs Pumpkin Festival (or simply want to go again), then be sure and stop by for its final weekend on October 29th and 30th. The festival is located at the Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead and will be open from 10 AM to 7 PM. Weekend admission is $10 for adults, and free for seniors over 65 or children younger than 3.
In addition to the festival’s more than 50 “fall-inspired games, activities, and attractions,” there will also be a Halloween raffle, golden skeleton hunt, costume contests, candy corn count, trick-or-treating, and some ghoulish giveaways you don’t want to miss!
Scream at the Screen
From the campy to the downright terrifying, if you love nothing more than a good horror movie, you’re not going to want to miss what’s sure to be a bloody good time at Austin’s Ethereal Horror Fest.
This weekend festival happening at various venues around the city October 21 through 23 will screen dozens of short and feature-length horror movies. There will also be a red carpet opening night party on October 21 with a complimentary bar and food for select ticket holders, tarot readings, and a filmmaker Q&A. A range of ticket options is available.
With so much happening around Dripping Springs this October, it’s always comforting to return home to a house and community you love. If you’d like to learn more about finding a home in the Caliterra community, reach out to us today.
